God is Real in Everyday Life
Thanksgiving is a time to gather with and give thanks for those you love. I always love this time of year when we can come together to cook, laugh, eat anything we want, watch football, play in the leaves of fall, and sleep in as long as we want. More importantly, Thanksgiving is a time to thank the Lord our God for all of our blessings that only He can give us. These blessings are all around us and in us. I am so “grateful” to God for my many blessings!
God is everywhere when you open the eyes of your heart to His love. I saw more of God this Thanksgiving as He showed up in the most wonderful ways. I found my heart rejoicing when I heard my father- in- law share a most beautiful and heartfelt prayer before the meal. I smiled when I saw that we had just enough food when I was worried I might not have enough to feed our group. I loved watching my children sitting around visiting with us “old folks” instead of spending time on their phones. It is the little things that can bring the most joy.
My heart is full when I can share moments with the ones I love. But when they leave, my heart aches to have them home again. I tend to worry (like most mothers) as they drive back to their home. This year, I decided to try just trusting the Lord more to bring them home safely without my usual worry. I prayed with them before they left and prayed for them after they left and trusted God to do the rest.
After a family fun-filled week, I was tired and ready to go to sleep. But before I got into my bed, I knew that I needed to pray a third time. So, I prayed again and went to bed believing that I would hear that they would get home soon. I dozed off and awoke to the phone ringing with my son’s sweet voice on the other end, “Mom, did you get my text? Look what we saw as we got home. We saw a bright cross of lights on a building welcoming us home!” I just smiled and knew that is was God answering my prayers. You see, not only did I pray for safety on the road, but I prayed my children would see the living God working in their lives.
When we least expect it, we will see God reminding us that our “home” is in Him! God is everywhere we choose to look. Find your home in His loving arms of grace!
